The Shopify App Store is one of the largest B2B software marketplaces in the world, powering millions of merchants with everything from email marketing to inventory management. I scraped the featured apps from each category to get a snapshot of what's trending in the ecosystem.

Note: This analysis covers ~230 featured apps shown on the main category pages, not the full app store (which has 10,000+ apps). Think of this as a look at Shopify's "front page" - the apps they're highlighting to merchants.

Observations

Among the featured apps sampled:

  • Orders & Shipping has the most featured apps, followed by Selling Products and Store Management
  • 75% offer a freemium model (free plan with paid upgrades), while pure free and paid-only apps are rare
  • Over 80% have ratings between 4.5-5.0 stars - featured apps skew heavily toward high ratings
  • 28% have the "Built for Shopify" badge, indicating they meet Shopify's quality and performance standards

Methodology

Data was collected by scraping the featured apps shown on each of the 7 main category pages of the Shopify App Store. This captures the ~30-45 apps Shopify highlights per category, totaling around 230 unique apps after deduplication.

This is intentionally a sample, not a comprehensive scrape. The full app store has 10,000+ apps, but the featured apps represent what Shopify considers most relevant for merchants browsing each category.
